Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! – Part 9 (Cape Cod)

Cape Cod, Massachusetts! Cape Cod

This famous beach town has all of the quaint charm of a fishing village of days past. Cape Cod is just now catching on to the idea of Wi-Fi, if that gives you an idea of the  sense of soothing isolation that  Cape Cod offers in the cooler, off-season months. Cape Cod

This town on the peninsula jutting off of Massachusetts has long been a favorite tourist destination for New England natives during the summer months.

Cape Cod is not only a quaint beach with rustic appeal; it also has a lot to offer in ritzy living. With gorgeous houses and swanky yacht clubs, this town has been a popular destination for the likes of the Kennedy family.

Cape Cod

The beginning of the United States as it is today started very near to this area in Jamestown, Massachusetts. You can visit the Pilgrim Monument during your visit and experience how the first settlers must have felt as they soaked in the incredible view.

Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! – Part 8 (Chicago)

Chicago, Illinois!

The “Windy City” located on the lower shores of Lake Michigan has a rich history that will draw you in. Chicago

The third largest city in the United States, Chicago has been a hot spot of immigration throughout its history. During the Industrial Revolution, this city took in thousands of immigrants from a wide array of backgrounds coming for work in the Land of Opportunity.

Chicago

Greeks, Polish, Italians and Jews flocked here to realize the American Dream. With them, they brought their rich, cultural backgrounds and unique lifestyles and ideas. All of this came together to make Chicago the bustling, diverse city that it is today.

The Italians brought with the deep dish pizza which has come to be called “Chicago Style Pizza.” This gastronomical delight has become a topic of taste controversy here in the United States as the battle between deep dish Chicago Style and thinner New York style pizza rages on. In order to try the ideal Chicago Style Pizza so that you too can contribute to the debate, you’ll have to go to Chicago for yourself.

Chicago

From World Fairs to new art museums, Chicago has hosted it all and would be glad to host you, too. Go for yourself and find out what you can contribute to this mosaic of culture.

Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! Part 6 (Grand Canyon)

The Grand Canyon!

What countdown of the best vacation spots in the United States would be complete with out the world-famous Grand Canyon?

Grand Canyon

Millions of people from all over the world flock to this gorgeous work of nature. This 277 mile long stretch of red rock canyon gets up to 18 miles across and one mile deep.

Daredevil hikers high around the North and South Rim of this spectacular piece of scenery year round. The bravest of the brave set up camps and stay a while to live amidst the glory of nature. Grand Canyon

Truly the Grand Canyon speaks for itself.

And what a story it tells. This art has been millions of years in the making. As the powerful colorado river snaked through the dry, deserts land, it carved its drive. This awesome battle of the elements has left the Earth scarred in its splendor.

For the best deals on hotel, should you chose to have a less wild trip, its best to go in late August for the summer experience. The Grand Canyon doesn’t disappoint any time of the year, but it is particularly awe-inspiring in the summer.

Come see the  waters of the Colorado river, whether they be green or red or blue depending on where you are,  play against the imposing wall of red rock. Grand Canyon

Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! Part 5 (Charleston)

Charleston, South Carolina!

This low-key, south eastern beach town is the perfect escape for someone who craves a little peace and some Southern hospitality.

Charleston

This charming city is very in touch with her historical roots. As you walk down the cobbled streets lined with gas lamps and breathe in the salty sea air, you’ll fall in love with Charleston.

Charleston

Charleston

In addition to staying in touch with her roots, the “Holy City” allows its branches to sway in the winds of change, like the Spanish moss hanging from her trees. Charleston has plenty of innovative cuisine and contemporary art museums.

Maybe take a tour around in a horse-drawn carriage to admire the antebellum architecture surrounding you before you take a relaxing day at the beach.

For the history buff in you, the first shots of the Civil War were fired in Fort Sumter. You can still take a tour of the historical military fort today, perhaps on your way to one of the supposedly haunted cemeteries in town.

Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! – Part 3 (New Orleans)

New Orleans, Louisiana!

This iconic city has a reputation for hot food and cool people.

This mystical city was built on Jazz and innovation.

New Orleans has been through it all from devastating hurricanes to messy oil spills and come out better every time.

This city has survived since it was a French colony and the influence of that time continues today. Take a walk down the to French Quarter and savor the colonial history.

If you’re interested in seeing the city at its peak, come into town during Mardi Gras and become immersed in a crowd of colorfully dressed people doing crazy things (most of them drunkenly). This fun time is once a year. This crazy party is most people’s dream party trip. The festivities are on Tuesday, February 15 this year (2015).

‘Mardi Gras’ translates from french to mean ‘Fat Tuesday’, and this particular Tuesday is indeed ‘fat’ with partiers.

if you don’t think you can get into the rainy weather routine, there are plenty of other things to do when it’s not rainy (which is surprisingly often, considering Seattle’s reputation). There’s actually less persipitation here annually than in Boston or New York!

Seattle is located between Puget Sound and Lake Washington and within a short drive from great skiing. Many locals enjoy hiking, kayaking, and camping in the surrounding area’s rich wildlife. Seattle

Seattle also has a rich cultural element in its history and art scenes.

It’s not all about the good coffee and coziness here, the city has a lot to offer!

Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Exercise

Dog Exercise is Important!

(Not That Myko Seems to Think So. . .

Myko can be quite the lazy pup when it comes to getting his exercise.

Laziness is pretty typical of the Shih Tzu breed and is part of what makes them such great lap dogs.

Shih Tzu are glamorous . . .

Like this one . . .

exercise

So Chic

But that doesn’t mean they don’t need to get their daily exercise in!

Make sure your Shih Tzu is happy and healthy by taking him/her to the park or for a long walk each day. This can lengthen your dog’s life expectancy and also keep you fit as well!

In the video, Myko may be being a lazy guy, but he’s at least socializing and soaking in the sights and smells, which is a form of exercise for dogs.
