Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! – Part 17 (San Francisco)

San Fransisco, California!

Save me, San Fransisco!

“The City by the Bay” has a lot of appeal as a vacation destination.

Take a picture with the engineering masterpiece wrought in red called the Golden Gate Bridge. This beautiful and functional bridge has become a national landmark. One can absolutely not visit the city without at least seeing the Golden Gate Bridge.

Plus, it photographs well, no matter the weather . . .

San Francisco

San FranciscoWhen you’re done admiring this cross between art and functionality, take a hike up to the Twin Peaks to get a complete view of the city for the price of a mild and enjoyable hike (or a taxi ride!)

San Francisco
Twin Peaks

San Francisco is notorious for its bouts of dense fog in the dips of the hilly landscape the city is built onto. This only serves to add to the charm of the city.

Don’t miss a ride on the famous trolleys!

Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! – Part 15 (San Diego)

San Diego, California!

Located on the south western corner of the country, right on the border of Mexico, San Diego is the land of the perpetual summer sun. This city is the epitome of the “SoCal” (Southern California) style.

San Diego

With gorgeous weather all year long, it’s not hard to imagine how this city has grown so much over the years. Yet it has still maintained its small town feel.

While you’re there, enjoy the seventy plus miles of shoreline. You can spend the day soaking up the sun in a variety of ways. There is beautiful surfing, sandy beaching for sunbathing, and plenty of beach turf for going for a run with your dog or playing a round of beach volleyball .

After a relaxing day at the beaching, soaking up the sun, head to the historic Gaslamp Quarter to soak in some of the wild nightlife.

Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! -Part 14 (Yosemite)

Yosemite National Park!

This 1,200 square mile wonderland of breathtaking landscapes will do exactly that; take your breath away.

Yosemite

Yosemite is a splendorous place, filled with the majesty of nature. Anyone who wasn’t already a nature enthusiast will surely become one upon arrival here.

Local outdoor outfitters will take you on a guided hike or climb to soak in the views. More seasoned adventurers can reserve  campsite and explore on their own.

Remember that this park is also a home. Wild animals live her and depend on this beautiful landscape to survive, so remember to Leave No Trace :

“Take nothing but pictures, Leave nothing but footprints”

Yosemite

Also keep in mind that these are wild animals. They do not respond well to people running up for a quick pet. To quote the expression, “Them’s fightin’ words” to a wild animal. Though I say this in jest, it’s important to respect the personal space of these animals who have their homes here.

But don’t forget to enjoy all that Yosemite has to offer!

Orlando, Florida!

Orlando
Orlando, Florida

Or more specifically, Walt Disney World in Orlando!

Orlando

Disney World has been a hallmark of American culture since its fouding in October of 1971.

Walt Disney saw an opportunity to create a magical escape for people in his movies and then further realized this dream through the foundation of a theme park.

The first theme park was Disneyland, founded in 1955 in Anaheim, California. After the success he found there, he decided to expand the operation and create Walt Disney World in Florida.

The “Magical World of Disney” (Walt Disney World) has become the most visited vacation resort in the world according to Forbes magazine.

Orlando

Disney World features gold, water parks, Sea World, and now even a Magical World of Harry Potter. The “Magic Kingdom” covers 27, 248 acres of land in Lake Buena Vista, Florida (which includes Orlando).

This vacation destination has all sorts of activities for people of all ages.

Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! – Part 11 (U.S. Virgin Islands)

The U.S. Virgin Islands!

This chain of islands has long been praised for its beauty and intrigue.

US Virgin Islands

Be prepared to slow down time while you’re on one of the these three islands in the Caribbean: St John, St Croix, and St Thomas. The U.S Virgin islands offer a host of opportunities for nth adventure and relaxation.

U.S. Virgin Islands

Learning the culture of the islands can be a history lesson on the colonial period or a simple walk around town to listen to the beautiful Creole language that has evolved here over time.

The undisturbed nature, sugary white beaches, and famous crystal clear blue waters will draw you in and anchor you to these exotic islands.

U.S. Virgin Islands

Indulge in fresh fruits and the local cuisine. Be sure to try a plate of Saltfish while you’re here!

But don’t be surprised when you’re joined for lunch by one of the wild iguana that roam the island freely or maybe a smaller lizard will stop by for a look. These animals are harmless and only contribute to the charm of the island. You can of course eat indoors if you foresee this being a problem for you.

Let the island life take you away! Visit the U.S. Virgin Islands?

Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! – Part 10 (Anchorage)

Anchorage, Alaska!

This glittering arctic world was nothing more than just that less than one hundred years ago. Today, it is a thriving society, but it hasn’t lost touch with the wilderness from which is sprang forth.

Anchorage

You’re never far away from some wonder of the arctic wild here, whether it be a glistening iceberg or a whale off the coast, a big bear coming in for a closer sniff at your car, or a family of moose enjoying an afternoon stroll, you’ll see it all right outside the city limits (or sometimes inside!)

Patricia Skeriotis Presents : Vacation! – Part 9 (Cape Cod)

Cape Cod, Massachusetts! Cape Cod

This famous beach town has all of the quaint charm of a fishing village of days past. Cape Cod is just now catching on to the idea of Wi-Fi, if that gives you an idea of the  sense of soothing isolation that  Cape Cod offers in the cooler, off-season months. Cape Cod

This town on the peninsula jutting off of Massachusetts has long been a favorite tourist destination for New England natives during the summer months.

Cape Cod is not only a quaint beach with rustic appeal; it also has a lot to offer in ritzy living. With gorgeous houses and swanky yacht clubs, this town has been a popular destination for the likes of the Kennedy family.

The beginning of the United States as it is today started very near to this area in Jamestown, Massachusetts. You can visit the Pilgrim Monument during your visit and experience how the first settlers must have felt as they soaked in the incredible view.
